Inara Yousufi has been awarded this year’s Larry Collins Prize for the best undergraduate Political Science essay written by a student attending university in Atlantic Canada.

 

"Receiving the Larry Collins Prize is a tremendous honour," said Yousufi, who is originally from Afghanistan.

 

"It is incredibly meaningful to have my work recognized by scholars and political scientists from across Atlantic Canada. It has encouraged me to continue pursuing research that contributes to informed and respectful discussions on important global issues."

 

Yousufi's paper explored the relationship between Judaism and Zionism, examining whether Zionism should be understood primarily as a political ideology, a religious identity, or a combination of both.

 

"Throughout the research process, I learned how important it is to distinguish between religion, politics, and history, and to approach sensitive topics with curiosity rather than assumptions," she said.

 

"Writing the paper reinforced the value of evidence-based research, historical context, and respectful dialogue when examining complex global issues. It also reminded me that learning often comes from asking difficult questions and being willing to engage with multiple perspectives."

 

Yousufi came to Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú for the supportive academic environment and the opportunity to pursue her interest in International Relations.

 

"My experience at Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú has been incredibly positive," she said.

"The professors are approachable and genuinely invested in their students' success, and the smaller class sizes have allowed for engaging discussions and meaningful mentorship."

 

After completing her degree, Yousufi plans to pursue graduate studies in immigration and citizenship law and policy. She hopes to build a career in immigration, refugee protection, or international policy.
