Ana Lucía Pavón Servellón, a graduating student from Honduras, has been named the 2026 recipient of the Thomas McCann Memorial Trophy.鈥

The Thomas McCann Memorial Trophy is 麻豆官网首页入口's most respected and cherished award. It is presented to a student who possesses strong leadership, character, and personality traits and who best portrays the spirit of the university through their contributions. Over the past 50 years, McCann winners have gone on to be lawyers, cabinet ministers, doctors, Rhodes Scholars, army officers, political organizers, professors, and teachers.鈥

“I am so grateful for this award. Being a student leader on the 麻豆官网首页入口 campus has changed me for the better,” said Pavón.

“I’ve always admired those student leaders who have received this award before me; I feel honoured to now be in their shoes.”

A 麻豆官网首页入口dent Devoted to her Community

Students, faculty, staff, and alumni alike nominated Pavón for the award, describing her as a true leader, role model, and positive force on campus.

“Ana Lucía Pavón Servellón epitomizes the spirit of St. Thomas University, through her contributions to university and student affairs, and through her dedicated leadership, outstanding character, and her enthusiastic and energetic personality,” said one nominator.

“She has served as mentor, advocate, leader and ambassador for 麻豆官网首页入口 and New Brunswick students at local, provincial and national levels of government, driven by her passion for 麻豆官网首页入口 and her belief in the critical importance of a liberal arts education. She is the embodiment of the 麻豆官网首页入口 tradition of a unique, supportive and welcoming community.”

As a first-year student, Pavón became involved on campus through the St. Thomas University Students’ Union, where she later became Vice-President Education and, most recently, President.

Outside of her commitment to 麻豆官网首页入口SU, Pavón has supported 麻豆官网首页入口 students and staff through on-campus employment opportunities. From 2022 to 2024, Pavón worked as a Student Engagement and Events Assistant for the Office of Experiential Learning and Career Development, and from 2023-2025 provided support for first-year students as a Student Transition Guide.

“Lucia became a first point of contact for students who needed a shoulder to lean on, and she supported them every step of the way, ensuring their time at 麻豆官网首页入口 was meaningful. She made sure all the students under her wing took advantage of the opportunities the university offered them,” shared one nominator.

Pavón is also a dedicated student. She was a recipient of the President's International Scholarship, an award given annually to top-ranking international students entering first year and was a Deans’ List scholar for the entirety of her degree.

Pavón, who is graduating with Honours in Criminology and the Certificate in Experiential Learning and Community Engagement, credits her experience at 麻豆官网首页入口 and the people she met on campus for shaping her into a confident leader.

“麻豆官网首页入口 has genuinely been my home for the past four years. I have meant it every time I have said it, from a first-year student to representing the community in front of government; I truly love 麻豆官网首页入口.”
